Lily Pad Edging

 


Cast on 12 stitches

Row 1: k1, yo, k1, yo, k5, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k1

Row 2 and all even Rows: k8, k2tog, k3

Row 3: k2, yo, k1, yo, k4, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k1

Row 5: k3, yo, k1, yo, k3, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k1

Row 7: k4, yo, k1, yo, k2, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k1

Row 9: k5, yo, k1, yo, k1, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k1

Row 11: k6, yo, k1, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k1

Don't forget Row 12 - repeat Row 2

Repeat these 12 Rows for pattern

Beryl Edging

 



Cast on 9 stitches

Row 1 (rs): sl, k4, yo, k2tog, yo(2), p2

Row 2: yo, k2, p1, k2, yo, k2tog, k3

Row 3: sl, k4, yo, k2tog, p4

Row 4: Bind off 2 sts, k3, yo, k2tog, k3

Repeat these four rows for the pattern.

~~Knit Note:  the p1 in row 2 is the double yarn over from row 1.  It is to be worked as one stitch.

Bird's Eye Edging

Sample knit with DK weight yarn, US 6 needles


This pattern uses double yarn overs; the first yarn over will always be knit, and the second yarn over will always be purled in subsequent rows.

Cast on 7 stitches

Row 1 (RS): k1, k2tog, double yarn over, k2tog, double yarn over, k2
Row 2: k3 (p1, k2) twice
Row 3: k1, k2tog, double yarn over, k2tog, k4
Row 4: bind off 2 sts, k3, p1, k2

Repeat these four rows for the pattern.

Wheat Ear Lace Edging

Sample knit with lace weight silk and US 7 needles

Cast on 5

Row 1 (RS): k2, yo, k1, yo, p2tog
Row 2: yo, p2tog, k1, p1, k2
Row 3: k3, yo, k1, yo, p2tog
Row 4: yo, p2tog, k1, p1, k3
Row 5: k4, yo, k1, yo, p2tog
Row 6: yo, p2tog, k1, p1, k4
Row 7: k6, yo, p2tog
Row 8: yo, p5tog, k3

Repeat these 8 rows for the pattern.

Primrose Edging

Sample knit with fingering weight yarn on US Size 4 needles
The stitch count is not consistent throughout.  The initial 11 stitches cast on increase to 18 by Row 5, and then decrease back to 11 at the end of Row 8.

Cast on 11
Knit one row - this is not repeated

Row 1:  k3, yo, k2tog, k1, ssk, cast on 4 sts, k2tog, k1 - 13 sts
Row 2:  k10, yo, k2tog, k1
Row 3:  k3, yo, k2tog, ssk, (yo, k1) four times, yo, k2tog - 16 sts
Row 4:  k13, yo, k2tog, k1
Row 5:  k3, yo, k2tog, ssk, (yo, k1) twice, yo, sl-k2tog-psso, (yo, k1) twice, yo, k2tog - 18 sts
Row 6:  k15, yo, k2tog, k1
Row 7:  k3, yo, k2tog, k11, k2tog - 17 sts
Row 8:  bind off 6 sts, k7, yo, k2tog, k1 - 11 sts

Repeat these 8 Rows for pattern.

Cyprus Edging

Top sample knit with silk lace weight; bottom knit with merino wool DK weight - both on US size 7 needles
Note: When slipping the first stitch on odd rows, hold the yarn in front of work and slip stitch purlwise.

Even though this is a 'lace' edging, don't be afraid to try it in weights other than lace.

Cast on 12 stitches

Setup - Knit 1 row plain

Row 1: sl, k5, k2tog, yo, k1, k2tog, k1
Row 2: k4, yo, k2tog, k2, yo, k2tog, k1
Row 3: sl, k3, k2tog, yo, k1, k2tog, k2
Row 4: k7, yo, k2tog, k1
Row 5: sl, k4, yo, k2tog, k1, yo (2x), k2
Row 6: k3, p1, k2, yo, k3, yo, k2tog, k1
Row 7: sl, k6, yo, k2tog, k4
Row 8: bind off 2 sts, k2, yo, k5, yo, k2tog, k1

Repeat rows 1-8 until edging is desired length.
