Diagonal Crepe Stitch

Sample knit with Patons Grace on US Size 5 needles

This stitch has pretty sloppy edges, you may want to add at least one extra stitch on each side as a selvage, or enough to make a border.

Multiple of 4 + 3

RT = Right Twist

There are two ways you can make the right twist: 

• K2tog, leaving sts on the left needle.  Knit first st again, then drop both sts from left needle.
• Skip first st on left needle, knit second st, then knit first st, and drop both from the left needle.

Row 1 (RS): P1, RT *P2, RT
Row 2: K1 *YO, P2tog, K2 - end last repeat with YO, P2tog
Row 3: K1 *P2, RT - end with P2
Row 4: K3 *YO, P2tog, K2

Knotted Pillar Stitch aka Reversible Mock Crochet

Speckled Rib

Sample knit with Lily Sugar'nCream Cotton on US Size 9 needles.  This is what the front of the fabric looks like.

This is a super simple stitch.  With only two rows, it is also easy to remember.  I personally would add a few more stitches to neaten up the sides, maybe plain garter or seed stitch.

Multiple of 5 + 2

Row 1: P2 *K3, P2*
Row 2: K2 *P1, K1, P1, K2*

Dewdrop Stitch

Pretty lacy stitch that is very easy to do!

• Sl 1-K2tog-PSSO = Slip next stitch purlwise, knit two together, pass the slipped stitch over the two knit together
• SSK = Slip, Slip, Knit - My preferred way is to slip next stitch knitwise, slip next stitch purlwise and then knit them together.  You may instead slip each knitwise, you will get the same result.  

Cast on any multiple of 6, +1

Rows 1 and 3: (Wrong Side) K2 *P3, K3*, end with P3, K2

Row 2: P2 *K3, P3*, end with K3, P2

Row 4: K2 *YO, Sl 1-K2tog-PSSO, YO, K3*, end with YO, Sl 1-K2tog-PSSO, YO, K2

Rows 5 and 7: P2 *K3, P3*, end with K3, P2

Row 6: K2 *P3, K3*, end with P3, K2

Row 8: K2tog *YO, K3, YO, Sl 1-K2tog-PSSO*, end with YO, K3, YO, SSK

Repeat these 8 Rows for the pattern

This fabric lays flat, but the edges are pretty ugly.  I would add a border, or at the very least, add an extra stitch to each side and slip for neat edges.

Cat's Eye Lace

This is a beautiful lace stitch that is actually really simple to knit.  Don't let the double yarn over scare you.  In the rows following the double yarn overs, you will be working each yarn over separately, instead of as one.  

Cast on a multiple of 4

Row 1: (Right side) K4 *YO-twice, K4*

Row 2: P2 *P2tog, P1 into first YO, K1 into second YO, P2tog*, end with P2

Row 3: K2, YO *K4, YO-twice*, end with K4, YO, K2

Row 4: P3 *P2tog-twice, P1 into first YO, K1 into second YO*, end with P2tog-twice, P3

Repeat these four Rows for the pattern.

French Lace Edging - Vintage Stitch Series

I decided to do another vintage lace edging this week.  I have seen "French Lace" stitch patterns several times in the old books and newspapers, and this is the one I chose this time.  This appeared in the March 19, 1882 New-York Daily Tribune and was submitted by Emma Estelle Wetsel.

Cast on 15 stitches

Row 1: K3, YO, K2tog, K3, YO, K1, YO, K6

Row 2: K6, YO, K3, YO, K2tog, K3, YO, K2tog, K1

Row 3: K3, YO, K2tog, K2tog, YO, K5, YO, K6

Row 4: Bind Off 4 sts, K1, YO, K2tog, K3, K2tog, YO, K2tog, K1, YO, K2tog, K1

Row 5: K3, YO, K2tog, K1, YO, K2tog, K1, K2tog, YO, K3

Row 6: K3, YO, K1, YO, S2KP, YO, K4, YO, K2tog, K1

Tulle Stitch

Sample knit with Cascade Pima Cotton on US Size 6 needles

This is another stitch that is super easy and gives a nice, lacy effect great for a summer scarf or shawl.  Only two rows, this stitch is easy to remember too.  As you can see from the picture, this stitch creates an angled fabric - something you may want to consider. Also, the edges are a bit sloppy, so you may also want to add some extra stitches for a border, depending on what you are knitting.

Cast on any odd number

Row 1: Knit all stitches

Row 2: *K2tog, YO*, Knit last stitch

Repeat these two rows for pattern.

Shell Lace Edging - Vintage Stitch Series

This sample knit with Butterfly Cotton on US Size 6 needles

There was no picture accompanying this stitch pattern, so I was very pleasantly surprised after I had finished the first repeat of it!  This is one of the prettiest stitches I think I have ever seen!  And it is easy to remember too even though it is a 12 Row repeat.  I found this gem of an edging in the NY Daily Tribune for February 29, 1880.  It was submitted by a Mrs. T. H. Corbett.  

Notes:  

1. The first stitch of every row is slipped as if to purl, with the yarn held at the front of the work.  (The pattern does not state to slip the first stitch on the plain knitted rows, and did not indicate how the stitch is to be slipped.  I decided to slip the first stitch on all of the rows pwise wyif, so that I would have nice, neat edges.)
2. You will be making a double yarn over on several of the rows; on the following row, you will be working both of these yarn overs - the first is knit, and the second is always purled.  

Cast on 9 stitches

Row 1: Slip 1, K1 [(YO twice, K2tog) 3 times] K1

Row 2: Slip 1, K2, P1, K2, P1, K2, P1, K2

Row 3: Slip 1, Knit

Row 4: Slip 1, Knit 

Row 5: Slip 1, K1, YO twice, K2tog, K8

Row 6: Slip 1, K9, P1, K2

Row 7: Slip 1, Knit

Row 8: Slip 1, Knit

Row 9: Slip 1, K1, [(YO twice, K2tog) 2 times] K7

Row 10: Slip 1, K8, P1, K2, P1, K2

Row 11: Slip 1, Knit

Row 12: Slip 1, K6 - Pass the first 6 stitches over the stitch just knit, K8

Repeat these twelve Rows for the pattern

Here is a sample I knit on Size 10 Crochet thread with US Size 0 needles.  It is hard to tell in the picture, but obviously the stitches are much smaller with the lighter cotton thread and smaller needles.  It makes a more dainty piece of fabric.  You will see the difference in the video.
