Raindrop Stitch

This stitch makes a subtle texture on stocking stitch.  You may want to consider a border all around to help the fabric lay flat, depending on how you plan to use the stitch.

And yes, I made a mistake in the video.  On the last row near the end, I forgot to slip the new stitch to the left needle to knit it again - sorry!

Multiple of 4 + 1

Rows 1 and 3 (WS): purl

Row 2: k1 *knit into next stitch in the row below, but don't drop original stitch from needle; slip new stitch back to left needle and knit it again, knit original stitch, then pass the new stitch over the stitch just knit, k3

Row 4: k3 *knit into next stitch in the row below, but don't drop original stitch from needle; slip new stitch back to left needle and knit it again, knit original stitch, then pass the new stitch over the stitch just knit, k3; repeat from *, end k1

Tent Stitch

Rows 1 and 3 (WS):  k2 *p5, k3; end p5, k2
Row 2: k2 *sl 5 wyif, k3; end sl 5 wyif, k2
Row 4: k4 *insert right needle under running strand and knit next st, pulling st out under running strand, k7; end k4

Razor Shell - 4 Stitch Rib

Little Pyramid Stitch

Tranquility Stitch

I recommend adding at least two extra stitches to your cast on count - one on each edge to make working the beginning of the row easier and for neatness.

There was someone looking for this stitch over on Knitting Paradise; it is used in the Wine Country Cowl.  The stitch is from the Third Walker Treasury.


Even number of stitches

Row 1: (RS) *yo, sl 1, k1, then pass both the yarn over and slipped stitch over the knit stitch*  (this will reduce your stitch count by half)

Row 2: *Insert right needle from right to left behind the diagonal strand at the base of the first stitch on left needle, and place strand onto left needle.  Purl strand, then purl the first stitch on left needle*

Threaded Ribbon Stitch

This is a great "mindless knitting" stitch, good for TV watching.  Not much to think about, and if you make a mistake, it is easy to spot and fix.

One thing I noticed about this stitch is that it has a bit of a wave to it.  Blocking should help flatten it out some, or you could let the fabric go as is if it doesn't bother you.

Multiple of 6 + 1

Row 1: K1 *P5, K1*

Row 2: P1 *K5, P1*

Repeat Rows 1-2 twice more

Row 7: P1 *K5, P1*

Row 8: K1 *P5, K1*

Repeat Rows 7-8 twice more

Repeat these 12 rows for the pattern

Embossed Bell Motif

Sample knit on US Size 6 needles - Patons Classic Wool that I dyed myself

You can space the bells any way you like; in my sample I worked with 18 stitches, and knit the first 6, made a bell, knit 6, made another bell, then knit the last 6.

SKP = Slip next st purlwise, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over
K = Knit
P = Purl
K2tog = Knit 2 together
P2tog = Purl 2 together

Motif is worked on six stitches, on  a reverse stocking stitch background

Row 1: (RS) P to bell position, cast on 6 for the bell, P to end
Row 2 and all WS Rows: K background sts, P bell sts
Row 3: P background sts, K bell sts, P to end
Row 5: P background sts, when  you reach the bell sts: SKP, K2, K2tog, P to end
Row 7: P background sts, when you reach the bell sts: SKP, K2tog, P to end
Row 9: P background sts, when you reach the bell sts: K2tog, P to end
Row 11: P background sts, when you reach the last bell st, purl it together with next st on left needle, P to end
Row 12: K

Scallop Stitch

Knot Stitch

To make the knots: Purl 3 together, leaving them on the left needle.  Knit same 3 together, and Purl same 3 together again before dropping from left needle

Row 4: Purl
Row 5: Knit
Row 6: Purl

Little Herringbone Stitch

This is similar to the Herringbone Stitch video I did in 2011.  This makes a nice thick, dense fabric.   Practice makes perfect with this stitch.  It isn't hard, but may take a few tries to get comfortable with.

All slipped stitches are slipped purlwise

Yarn is to be held in the back of the work when slipping (wyib)

Worked on an odd number of stitches

Row 1: (WS) *P2tog, leaving sts on left needle.  Purl first stitch again, then drop both stitches from left needle* end P1

Row 2: *Slip next stitch wyib, K1.  With left needle, lift the slipped stitch as if to pass the slipped stitch over, but knit it before dropping it from the needle* end K1

Waffle Brioche, or Plaited Brioche Stitch

All slipped stitches are to be slipped knitwise with the yarn held to the back.

Rows 1 and 3, the two stitches are are knit together through the back loop are a yarn over and a knit stitch.

Rows 2 and 4, the yarn over tends to cover the second stitch that you are to knit.  You may need to hold the yarn over out of the way with your thumb or finger to get to the second stitch.

tbl = through the back loop

Sl = slip

Multiple of 3 + 2

Row 1: (WS) K1 *YO, Sl 1, K2tog tbl* , end K1

Row 2: K3 *Sl 1, K2* , end Sl 1, K1 (the slipped stitches will be the yarn overs from previous row)

Row 3: K1 *K2tog tbl, YO, Sl 1* , end K1

Row 4: K2 *Sl 1, K2* (the slipped stitches will be the yarn overs from the previous row)

Repeat these four rows for the pattern.

Ornamental Stitch

Sample knit with Knit Picks Chroma Worsted on US Size 7 needles

This is an easy stitch, but you may find a crochet hook useful in pulling up the loops on the flower, or daisy.  This is a stocking stitch fabric and curls, so you may want to add some extra stitches for a border to help it lay flat.

To make the daisy:

Insert right needle into the third stitch down from the second stitch on left needle.  Draw up a loop, K2, draw up another loop from same stitch as before, K2, and draw one more loop through that same stitch.

Multiple of 10 + 8

Rows 1, 3, 5: Knit

Rows 2, 4, 6: Purl

Row 7: K2, Make daisy *K6, make daisy * repeat to last 2 sts, K2

Row 8: P2 *(P2tog, P1) twice, P2tog, P5* repeat to last 9 sts, (P2tog, P1) three times

Rows 9, 11, 13: Knit

Rows 10, 12, 14: Purl

Row 15: K7 *make daisy, K6* repeat to last st, K1

Row 16: P2 *P5, (P2tog, P1) twice, P2tog* repeat to last 6 sts, P6

Repeat these 16 rows for the pattern.
