Little Leaves Stitch

 

Sample knit with DK yarn on US 8 needles

Multiple of 5 + 2

To make leaf: working into stitch four rows below third stitch on left needle, draw up a loop and place on left needle; yo on right needle; into same stitch as before, draw up a second loop and place on left needle; yo on right needle; into same stitch as before, draw up a third loop and place on left needle, then knit the three loops and next stitch on left needle together through the back loop; pass the two yarn over loops over the stitch just worked.  Leaf is now complete.

Rows 1 and 3: knit

Row 2 and all Even Rows: purl

Row 5: k2 *make leaf, k4; rep from * to end

Don't forget Row 6 - purl

Openwork Checkerboard Stitch

2 Color Loop Stitch

In my sample above, after my last repeat of the pattern, I worked Rows 1 and 2 once more, then worked the bind off so that the cast on and bind off edges match.

If you want the cast off edge worked in the second color, bind off after Row 6.  In the picture below, I've finished working Row 6 and would bind off at this point if I wanted the cast on and bind off edges to be different.

All slipped stitches are slipped purlwise, yarn in back

You may want to add a border, or work this stitch in between other stitch patterns; because of the rows ending/beginning with slipped stitches being passed over, the edges are not even or neat.  Another option is to work the uneven edges in as a design feature, to use as buttonholes perhaps.

Vertical Eyelets

This is a quick and easy stitch that looks lovely in just about any weight yarn.  The above samples were knit in worsted (top) and fingering (bottom).

Since this is a stocking stitch based pattern, there will be some curling to your fabric.  Depending on how you plan to use the stitch, you may want to consider adding a border, like Garter Stitch as I have done in the top sample.  Seed Stitch would also work well.  A border will help prevent curling of the fabric.

Multiple of 5 + 3

Row 1 (RS): p3 *p2tog, yo, p3
Rows 2 and 4: knit
Row 3: p3 *yo, p2tog, p3

Repeat these four rows for the pattern.

3 Stitch Twist Mock Cable

Sample knit with DK weight yarn on US 6 needles

In my sample, I added 2 extra stitches, worked in garter stitch, to separate my mock cable panels.  You do not have to do this - you can just repeat the mock cable pattern as many times as you like without something separating the panels.

Play around with the spacing, making them closer or further apart.  If you want a different stitch separating your panels, and don't like garter stitch, try a true cable or simple mesh stitch.

Cast on 7 stitches (per panel)

Rows 1 and 3: (WS) k2, p3, k2
Row 2: p2, k3, p2
Row 4: p2, knit into 3rd stitch on left needle, then knit into the second stitch, and finally knit into the first stitch, dropping all three from left needle, p2

Repeat these four rows for the pattern.

Cluster Stitch

Sample knit with worsted weight wool on US 8 needles

You can vary the look of the clusters by wrapping more times for larger clusters, and fewer times for smaller clusters.  You can also wrap the yarn tightly or loose to change the look of the clusters.

To make clusters: k3, slip those 3 sts from right needle onto a cable or DPN (should be same size as needle used in project or smaller - a larger DPN can stretch your stitches); wrap working yarn counterclockwise around stitches six times, then slip those three stitches back to right needle.

Row 1 and all WS rows: purl

Row 2: knit

Row 4: k4 *cluster, k3; rep from *, end k1

Row 6: knit

Row 8: k1 *cluster, k3; rep from *, end cluster, k1

Repeat these 8 rows for pattern.

This stitch produces a fabric with lots of stretch.  You may also want to add a few extra stitches for a border.
