Pebble Stitch

I love scarves, and think that this particular stitch would make a lovely scarf.  Even a lapghan would would look pretty knit with this stitch, or any project you like, really.  I have included some extra photos with this stitch, just to help guide you along.

This is a four row repeat
Cast on an even number of stitches

Row 1: Knit all stitches
Row 2: Purl all stitches
Row 3: Knit 1 *Knit two together*, repeat from * to last stitch, Knit 1
Row 4: Knit 1 *Knit the horizontal bar between the stitch you just knit, and the next stitch on the left needle, Knit 1*, repeat from * to last stitch, Knit 1.  To knit the bar, you simply insert the tip of your left needle under it from front to back and then knit as normal.

Repeat these four rows for pattern.  Just a note, the edges of my swatch were not very neat, so you may want to add a border, depending on what you are knitting.  Now, here are a few photos to help explain how this stich works incase you need some help.

This is the horizontal bar between the stitch you just knit and the next stitch on the left needle

Lift the bar from front to back with the tip of your left needle, and then knit as normal.

Just a note for the end of Row 4.  1 is the horizontal bar, 2 and 3 are obviously the last two stitches on the left needle.  This is how you finish the row:  Knit the bar, Knit the next stitch, and then Knit the last stitch.  You will NOT be knitting the bar between 2 and 3!  This will cause you to have one extra stitch.
