Colored Seeds

Sample knit with worsted weight silk on US size 9 needles

Multiple of 4 + 3

Rows 1 and 2: With color A - p1 *k1, p1

Row 4: With color B - p1, k1, p1 *sl 1 wyif, p1, k1, b1

Repeat these four rows for the pattern.

I cast on with color A, and for my bind off edge, I worked Rows 1 and 2 once more because I thought it looked better than binding off after Row 4. You can use color B to cast on/bind off if you like.

Happy Knitting!

Raindrop Stitch

Sample knit with worsted weight yarn on US size 8 needles

This stitch makes a subtle texture on stocking stitch.  You may want to consider a border all around to help the fabric lay flat, depending on how you plan to use the stitch.

And yes, I made a mistake in the video.  On the last row near the end, I forgot to slip the new stitch to the left needle to knit it again - sorry!

Multiple of 4 + 1

Rows 1 and 3 (WS): purl

Row 2: k1 *knit into next stitch in the row below, but don't drop original stitch from needle; slip new stitch back to left needle and knit it again, knit original stitch, then pass the new stitch over the stitch just knit, k3

Row 4: k3 *knit into next stitch in the row below, but don't drop original stitch from needle; slip new stitch back to left needle and knit it again, knit original stitch, then pass the new stitch over the stitch just knit, k3; repeat from *, end k1

Crochet-Knit Mesh

Sample knit with fingering weight yarn on US size 4 needles

This stitch creates a fabric that spreads a good bit.  A loose/stretchy cast on and bind off is recommended so the edges will stretch with the fabric when blocking.

Repeat for pattern.

The Frances Edging

This lace edging comes from Weldon's Knitted Edgings and Insertions No. 442, Vol. 37.  I am using it for a shawl knit with my Silk Camel yarn.

It knits up quickly and is an easy pattern to remember.

I have tweaked it ever so slightly by changing the last stitch on the ws rows to a knit instead of a purl.  The pattern instructs to just slip the first stitch on rs rows - I slip purlwise with the yarn in front, so by knitting the last ws stitch instead of purling, I have a nice clean edge to pick up for my shawl.  There are of course other ways to get the clean edge, but this way is my preferred method.

Cast on 8 stitches

Row 1: (RS) Sl 1, k1, yo, k2tog, k2, yo twice, k2
Row 2: yo, k2tog, p1, k1, p to last st, k
Row 3: Sl 1, k1, yo, k2tog, k to end
Row 4: sk2po, p to last st, k

Repeat these four rows for the pattern.  Happy Knitting!

Random Lace

My sample was knit with some of my incredibly soft, smooth, fluffy must-have Silk Camel yarn on US Size 6 Nova Cubics.  This yarn is my new love - I've kept a skein for myself and will be knitting something with it very soon!  YUMMY, it is so exquisite!

I did things a little differently this week.  I used a random stitch generator to get the stitch you see above.  Pretty awesome, isn't it?  This is the generator I used, but there are others out there.  Google 'random stitch generator' or 'random lace generator' or a similar phrase and you'll find some.  There are even cables!  Lots of fun, I hope you try.  And please stop by my Facebook page and share a picture of your own generated stitch!

For my stitch, I do recommend at least one extra stitch on each edge because there are yo's at the beginning of some rows; for a project using this stitch, a border would be nice.

The Generator ----> Click here.

Multiple of 4

Row 1: (RS) *k2, yo, ssk
Row 2 and all WS Rows: purl
Row 3: *yo, ssk, yo, k2tog
Row 5: *yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog
Row 7: *yo, ssk, ssk, yo  --  you will have a double yarn over here, since the row begins and ends with a yo.  When you come to this double yo on Row 8, you will p the first strand, and k the second strand.

Repeat these 8 rows for the pattern.

Woot, woot!  Happy Knitting!

Twisted Ladder Stitch

Sample knit with Sapphires-n-Purls Merino Dream yarn on Lantern Moon Ebony needles, US #5

This stitch comes from one of several Japanese stitch dictionaries I have.  If you are an adventurous knitter or crocheter, I highly recommend getting at least one Japanese stitch dictionary; you may find some familiar stitches, but the majority are not to be found in the stitch dictionaries you may already have, like Vogue or the Walker Treasuries.   All of the Japanese books are charted, and the symbols are standardized.  Each book has illustrations showing how each of the stitches are worked.   If you Google Japanese knitting or Japanese knitting stitches, etc. you will find some blogs and videos to help you along.

Most of the Japanese stitches are lengthy, however this one is just two rows.  You will also be dealing with double yarn overs here.  In Row 1, make a double yarn over; on Row 2, you will purl the first loop, slip it from the needle, then knit through the back leg of the second loop and slip it from the needle.  Not hard, but may take a bit of practice.  You may find a pointy needle helpful in getting through the back loop of the second yarn over.

Multiple of 4

Row 1: *skpo, yo(2), k2tog
Row 2: *p1, p first loop of double yo, kbl of second loop of double yo, p

Repeat these two rows for the pattern.  Happy Knitting!
