Open Honeycomb



This stitch produces a fabric with lots of stretch.  You may also want to add a few extra stitches for a border.


Odd number of stitches

Row 1 (RS): purl
Row 2: purl
Row 3: k1 *yo, ssk, repeat from * to end
Row 4: purl

Repeat these four rows for the pattern.

Closely Wrapped Stitch

Sample knit with Malabrigo Worsted on US 8 needles

Multiple of 4+2

Row 1: knit  (Set up row, won't be repeated)

Row 2: k1 *yo, p2, pass yo over the 2 purl sts, p2* k1
Rows 3 and 5: knit
Row 4: k1 *p2, yo, p2, pass yo over the 2 purl sts* k1

Repeat Rows 2-5

Asynchronous Lace


Multiple of 5 + 1

If you are knitting this stitch pattern from the start, knit or purl a row first so you can work the k1b in Row 1 of the stitch pattern.


Row 1: (RS) *p1, k1b, p1, yo, ssk*, end k1
Rows 2 and 4: purl
Row 3: *p1, k1b, p1, k2tog, yo*, end k1

Row 1: (WS) k2, p6, k2
Row 2: p2, k2, sl 2 wyib, k2, p2
Row 3: k2, p2, sl 2 wyif, p2, k2
Row 4: p2, sl next 2 sts to cable needle and hold at back, k1, then k2 from cable needle, sl next st to cable needle and hold at front, k2, then k1 from cable needle, p2

Twilled Stripe Stitch

Sample knit with Malabrigo Worsted on Deborah Norville US #10 needles

This has to be one of my favorite new stitches!  I love the look of this one, and it is so easy too.

Multiple of 7 + 2

LT = Left Twist - skip next stitch on left needle, knit into the back loop of second stitch, leaving stitch on needle.  Then slip first stitch purlwise, and drop second stitch from left needle.

Row 1 and all WS Rows:  k2 *p5, k2
Row 2: p2 *LT, k3, p2
Row 4: p2 *k1, LT, k2, p2
Row 6: p2 *k2, LT, k1, p2
Row 8: p2 *k3, LT, p2

Repeat these 8 rows for the pattern.  Happy Knitting!

Telescope Lattice

Sample knit with Malabrigo Worsted, Deborah Norville US Size 10 needles

Multiple of 12 + 2

BC = Slip 2 sts to cable needle and hold in back of work, knit 2 sts from left needle, then knit the 2 sts from cable needle

FC = Slip 2 sts to cable needle and hold in front of work, knit 2 sts from left needle, then knit the 2 sts from cable needle

Row 1 (WS) and all WS Rows:  Purl
Rows 2 and 6: Knit
Row 4: K1 *BC, K4, FC* K1
Row 8: K1 *K2, FC, BC, K2* K1

Repeat these 8 Rows for the pattern.

Garter Stitch Lace Ladder

Sample knit with Malabrigo Worsted on US Size 8

This is a super simple lacy stitch.  The only thing you may find a little tricky is the double yarn over, but even that isn't really hard to get the hang of.

Multiple of 4

Row 1: (RS) *k2tog, yo twice, ssk*
Row 2: *k1, (k1, p1) into double yo, k1*

Repeat these two rows for the pattern.
